-Ratings Breakdown: CBS’ Thursday winning streak continued, with a metered market advantage of 18 percent over second-place ABC. That should be enough to also keep it dominant for the evening among key adults 18-49. In the distant No. 3 spot was NBC, followed by Fox and the CW.
CBS’ veteran Survivor: Gabon is down, but not out with a dominant 6.9 rating/11 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. One year earlier, the China edition averaged an 8.4/13. Now that Charlie is gone, it looks like Corinne the witch, deadly dull Bob and horrific Randy should all have their bags packed.
Second in the 8 p.m. hour was ABC’s Ugly Betty (6.4/10), followed by NBC’s lackluster My Name is Earl (4.3/ 7) and the awful Kath & Kim (3.4/ 5), Fox’s uneventful Kitchen Nightmares (3.4/ 5), and the CW’s fading Smallville (2.8/ 4). Someone should tell Molly Shannon that Kath & Kim is an ongoing half-hour sitcom, not a sketch on Saturday Night Live.
Once again, CBS’ CSI led the 9 p.m. hour in the overnights, with a 10.9/17. Second was Grey’s Anatomy on ABC (9.4/15), which will be more than enough to win the hour among adults 18-49, followed by NBC’s The Office (4.8/ 7) and 30 Rock (4.7/ 7), another installment of bland Kitchen Nightmares on Fox (3.7/ 6), and Supernatural on the CW (2.3/ 3). With so many other holes to worry about, Supernatural should have no trouble returning next season. Mirroring last week, expect The Office and 30 Rock to flex some muscle among adults 18-49.
First in the 10 p.m. hour was Eleventh Hour on CBS, with a 7.5/12 in the overnights. But retention out of the second half of lead-in CSI (11.2/17 at 9:30 p.m.) was just 67 percent and the year-ago occupant, Without a Trace, averaged a 10.3/17. CBS should, no doubt, be doing better here. NBC’s ER rose to an above-average 7.2/12 care of the guest appearances by former cast members Anthony Edwards, Laura Innes, Paul McCrane and Abraham Benrubi. Comparably, that was 53 percent above lead-in 30 Rock. And ABC’s Life on Mars, which is heading to Wednesday at 10 p.m. out of Lost in January, was last with a 5.5/ 9. Comparably, that put retention out of the last half of lead-in Grey’s Anatomy (9.5/15) of just 58 percent.

Ratings Box: What’s Hot/What’s Not
-A Dominant View on ABC: Based on ratings for the week of Nov. 3, ABC’s The View finished as the most-watched show in daytime in total viewers, with 4.67 million. Results on post-election day Wednesday were its best for a single telecast ever at 6.17 million. Comparably, The View outdelivered its record average from one week earlier by eight percent in total viewers. The female driven chatfest also ranked first among all daytime programs among women 18-49.
-Nov. 2008 Ratings Update: Midway through the November 2008 sweeps, three networks – ABC, CBS and NBC (yes, NBC!) – are sharing leadership. CBS is the most-watched network (with 470,000 more viewers than second-place ABC). ABC is first in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. And ABC and NBC are tied for No. 1 among adults 18-34. But all three networks are down year-to-year. The biggest loser is Fox, which ranks fourth in three of the four surveyed categories (excluding adults 18-34), and is down by margins of 15 to 19 percent. Excluding a flat performance among adults 18-34, the CW has also decreased by double-digit percentages.

-FX Announces Launch Dates: FX will launch the new season of Nip/Tuck on Tuesday, Jan. 6, while season two of Damages will kick-off on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Both will air at 10 p.m. ET.
-More Sanctuary: Sci Fi Channel has renewed drama Sanctuary for a second season, with an order for 13 additional episodes. Production is slated to begin in Vancouver in first quarter 2009.
-TV Land Announces Three Additional Original Series: TV Land, home of the returning High School Reunion and She’s Got the Look and upcoming The Cougar has announced three more non-scripted series: How’d You Get So Rich?; First Love, Second Chance; and Make My Day. How’d You Get So Rich?, from Survivor creator Mark Burnett, will feature comedian/diva Joan Rivers searching the country to find out how wealthy people got their money. Relationship driven First Love, Second Chance will give long-lost sweethearts an opportunity to rekindle their romance. And Make My Day is a hidden-camera look into one day in the life of an unsuspecting participant. Six episodes have been ordered for each series, which will all debut in 2009.
-TargetVision Update: TargetVision, the distributor for first-run weekly Sports Stars of Tomorrow, has announced an upcoming half hour targeted to the upcoming Heisman Trophy Awards. Airing the second weekend of December, Sports Stars of Tomorrow will feature a package of 10 three-minute profiles of prior Heisman winners for use in the station’s local news and sports coverage, plus special on-air promos and print ads that can be tagged for local sponsorships. ER really perked up with the revisit of old cast members. The other 10pm shows didn't even seem to be hurt much by ER's increase, so these were mostly eyeballs that would not have been watching the hour on Network at all.

The 'best new drama' catagory has 8 entries including Crusoe, Knight Rider, 90210, and Privileged.
Clearly, the only qualification for a nomination is that the show has to be new this year and their network has to be able to afford the $250 entry fee (sorry, dumont ).
